Electrical Fire Severely Damages Car In Granby, Driver Escapes Unharmed

An electrical malfunction in a car traveling towards North Granby Road escalated to a full-blown fire but no one was harmed in the incident.

A freak electrical fire that caused a car to have its front end engulfed in flames in Granby was extinguished without any injuries Friday afternoon.

Leanna Bellmund, a senior at Granby Memorial High School, was driving her 2003 Nissan XTerra towards North Granby Road (Route 189) on Danielle Road around 4:10 p.m. Friday when her dashboard started sparking and smoke began coming out of the car. The car’s horn also started sounding. Noticing the odor of gasoline and fire, Bellmund pulled to the side of the road and exited the vehicle.

“Then it burst into flames,” Bellmund said. “The smoke was insane.”
