Granby American Legion Game Dinner Returns

Granby's American Legion Post #182 held its annual Game Dinner on February 25th after skipping the last two years due to the pandemic.

Granby’s American Legion Post #182 held its annual Game Dinner on February 25th after skipping the last two years due to the pandemic. Nearly a score of members and friends served selections of deer, pheasant, wild boar, bison, rabbit, and salmon to at least 106 of the Post’s friends and neighbors.
A long time Granby tradition, the event was to have originally been held on January 28th. However, after several of the members tested positive for COVID and with an abundance of caution, the Post’s officers delayed the event to the following month. Thankfully, everybody recovered fully. “We knew that our friends and community deserved an event free from concern. At the same time, we knew we couldn’t cancel the dinner. So, it was a no-brainer,” said Post Commander Wayne Adams.
The evening kicked off with an inspirational prayer and pledge of allegiance led by Legion Chaplain Joe Hukill. Mark Anderson--a member of Post #182 and the Connecticut House of Representatives for district 62 (Barkhamsted, Granby, Hartland, and New Hartford)—served as master of ceremonies. Adjutant Cliff Burrell distributed many raffle prizes, most of which were donated by Granby-area businesses.
“Our Post has always been blessed with the support of our community and local businesses,” past Post Commander Jim Hall attested. “The Game Dinner is just one of the ways we try to give back to our community.”
Commander Wayne Adams agreed and added, “If it wasn’t for Geisller’s, Valley Fish, and Litchfield Locker Prime Meats providing extra support, we couldn’t have pulled off the dinner after having to delay it. They were so forthcoming and genuinely concerned that we could recover from that setback.”
