Granby To Choose Town Committee Members

The caucuses, mandated by state law, will determine Granby's Republican and Democratic Town Committees.

GRANBY, CT — Granby’s two major political parties will hold caucuses this week to elect Town Committee members for the next two-year term, according to the town’s Registrars of Voters.

The Republican Party caucus is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, followed by the Democratic Party caucus on Thursday, Jan. 8. State law requires both major parties to hold caucuses between Jan. 6 and Jan. 13.

Only registered members of a major political party are eligible to participate. New voters and unaffiliated voters may join a major party up until noon on the day before the caucus. However, voters who are switching from one party to another — including from a minor party — must observe a three-month waiting period before gaining party privileges.

Party members who are eligible but were not nominated during the caucus and wish to seek a seat on their party’s Town Committee may petition to do so. Those interested are advised to contact the Granby Registrars of Voters immediately following the caucuses for information on procedures and deadlines.
