Griffin, Scacchitti, Shamett: Recent Death Notices From The Granbys

Condolences are extended to the families and friends of those who have recently died.

GRANBY-EAST GRANBY, CT —Here are some recent death notices from the Granbys.

Melba (Trott) Griffin, 97, wife of 65 years of the late Fred Fleming Griffin, completed her journey and passed away at home with hospice care on March 21, 2025. She worked at the Hartford Public Library, and her children have fond memories of attending story hour and volunteering with mom at the Frederick H. Cossitt Library, a North Granby treasure. Melba later earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Rhode Island and worked as the head librarian at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury.

Ann (Merkel) Scacchitti, 73, wife of 51 years of Vince Scacchitti, passed away peacefully though unexpectedly on March 25, 2025 at her home in North Granby. Once her children were older, she took a job within the Granby Public School system as a teaching assistant who specialized in working in special education and with children with disabilities. Nancy loved her work immensely and was an advocate, a confidant, a cheerleader and resource to all those she taught.

Mary Ellen (MacDonald) Shamett, 78, of East Granby, beloved wife of almost 50 years of Serge Shamett, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. She worked as a manager at Westside Parking in East Granby and Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks; however, her most treasured role was as a school bus driver for Rainbow Bus in Granby and East Granby. She also served the town of East Granby as an EMT with the East Granby Ambulance Association for many years. Her contributions to the community are honored with her name on a plaque at the East Granby Ambulance barn.
