Hungary Road Bridge In Granby Closes As Replacement Begins
The bridge repair is expected to take around four months. During that time, the road will be closed near the Suffield line.

GRANBY, CT — The Hungary Road Bridge has closed to all traffic, and the roadway will remain closed near the Suffield line for around four months as the bridge is replaced.
Officials anticipate the road will reopen in early June 2022, and the town will notify residents if that timeline changes.
Signs are in place for detour routes, said Kirk Severance, Granby's director of public works. For travelers going north at Hungary Road, detour signs will bring them to either Phelps Road in Suffield or Quarry Road in Granby, Severance told Patch.

The bridge is being replaced because a state inspection performed three or four years ago determined it's "deficient" — meaning it's still safe to travel on, but had deteriorated to the point that replacing it would be cheaper than repairing it, Severance said.
The public works director believes the bridge was built around 1956. Its replacement will cost just under $1 million, he said, with the state funding half of the project and the town paying for the other half.

Dayton Construction is doing the construction work, and WMC Consulting Engineers will perform an inspection. Severance said the companies won during a bidding process.
