September 11 Remembrances Low Key but Welcome in Granby, East Granby
The 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon isn't being marked with the somber ceremony of 2010's observances, but Granby and East Granby residents have options to remember the event and learn from it.

While no official ceremonies are taking place in Granby or East Granby today to remember the attacks on American soil that took place exactly 11 years ago on September 11, 2001, local residents are welcome in various locations across the two towns to pay respects and reflect on what has happened since that infamous date.
Granby and East Granby officials pointed to two memorials where reflection is welcome. Granby's Veterans Wall in , quickly visible as you enter the park on the right, is one option. It is a quiet location that lists Granby veterans lost in combat including those who gave their lives in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, which both are tied in the popular consciousness to the 9/11 attacks.
Residents wishing to place flowers, flags or other memorials, or simply find a calm spot to pay respects to the civilians and soldiers that passed away during the attacks and in their wake, can use the wall as a respectful place to think about how the country and the world has changed in the 11 years since the attacks.

East Granby First Selectman Jim Hayden suggested a respectful option for residents of that town as well.

While no churches in the area contacted by The Granbys Patch are hosting special services, congregation members and others can visit places of worship across Granby and East Granby as another option to look back on the attacks.
The anniversary, while somber, does provide an educational opportunity for education with children about the event and its effects. .
