Timeline: Before and After the October Snowstorm

Halloween is approaching without any indication that we'll experience another severe snowstorm like the one that hit the area in late October 2011.

Here's a look back at the timeline of events leading up to, during and after the storm.

October 28, 2011

• Gover Malloy warns residents of possible power outages due to heavy snow falling on trees that hadn't lost their leaves.

Oct. 29, 2011

• CL&P issued a list of storm preparation tips for Conn. residents.

• Governor Malloy announces state of emergency.

Oct. 30, 2011

• A photo gallery documents the damage caused by the storm.

Oct. 31, 2011

• CL&P announced that 550 crews would be working by the end of the day.
• Governor Malloy takes a helicopter tour of the damaged areas.

• Trick-or-treating becomes an issue in Granby and East Granby.

Nov. 3, 2011

• State and local lawmakers begin to doubt the veracity of CL&P's restoration estimates.

Nov. 11, 2011

• Many Granby and East Granby businesses decide not to file a class action lawsuit against CL&P resulting from storm-related business difficulties.
  

• Lawmakers proposed levying penalties against utilities, as well as requiring customer rebates and imposing new standards.

Dec. 6. 2011

• Granby officials find out that debris removal and clean up will cost twice as much as originally expected.
