3 Face DWI Charges in Greenwich Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement Effort
Greenwich Police release Thanksgiving traffic stats — including DWI arrests of drivers from Greenwich, Stamford, Port Chester.
Greenwich Police arrested three motorists on driving while intoxicated charges during the department’s annual Thanksgiving holiday weekend traffic enforcement crackdown.
In total, police made 114 motor vehicle stops between noon Nov. 25 until 11:59 p.m. Nov. 29. Police also investigated 12 accidents and responded to a total of 648 calls during the period.
Among the arrests were drivers on driving while intoxicated charges including one who police said nearly hit a patrol car head-on on Delavan Avenue about 2:20 a.m. Nov. 27.

The driver, Julio C. Ortiz, 60, of King Street, Port Chester, was stopped on Delavan Avenue near Mead Avenue after the near-miss, according to a police report. He reportedly had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and failed field sobriety test, according to the report. In addition to the DWI charge, Ortiz was ticketed for failure to drive in proper lane. He was released on a $250 bond and scheduled to appear Dec. 11 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
A woman from Stamford was arrested for DWI shortly after 5 a.m. Nov. 26 after she passed a patrol car at a high rate of speed, according to a police report. The officer followed the Mercedes Benz and saw the tail lights weren’t illuminated. When the officer stopped Maria Ulloa, 24, of Mitchell Street, Stamford, he smelled an odor of alcohol and she failed subsequent field sobriety tests, according to the report.

Ulloa also was cited for failure to have tail lights illuminated. She was released on a $250 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 10.
A 43-year-old Greenwich woman was arrested on a DWI and operation of a motor vehicle without a license charges and ticketed for unsafe movement after police saw her swerving as she drove north on Mason Street near East Elm Street about 11:20 p.m. Nov. 25, according to a police report.
Marbel Rojas-Cruz, of Sheephill Road, is accused of having an odor of alcohol on her breath and failing field sobriety tests. Rojas-Cruz was released after posting a $250 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7.
