3 Greenwich Restaurants Among Wine Spectator's 2023 Award Winners
Three Greenwich restaurants were honored by Wine Spectator in their list of 2023 award winners for excellent wine lists.
GREENWICH, CT — Wine Spectator recently unveiled the winners of the 2023 Restaurant Awards, which honor the world's best restaurants for wine, and among the honorees are three Greenwich eateries.
This year’s awards program recognizes 3,505 dining destinations from all 50 states in the U.S. and more than 70 countries worldwide.
In Greenwich, Townhouse and Rebeccas were two of the 2,001 restaurants to receive the "Award of Excellence."

According to Wine Spectator, wine lists at "Award of Excellence" restaurants, which should offer at least 90 selections, "feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Whether compact or extensive, focused or diverse, these lists deliver sufficient choice to satisfy discerning wine lovers."
L'Escale was one of 1,411 winners given the "Best of Award of Excellence."

Restaurants to obtain this honor have wine lists that display excellent breadth across multiple winegrowing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation, Wine Spectator said.
"Typically offering 350 or more selections, these restaurants are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team," the award description reads.
"In a time of technological innovation, restaurants offer the human experience diners are hungry for — listening to their customers and offering personalized experience," said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator. "This annual issue celebrates the places where wine is at the top of that conversation. I'm pleased to congratulate all 3,505 restaurants for their dedication to wine and wine-loving diners."
Launched in 1981, the Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards represent the world's only program focused exclusively on restaurant wine service. The awards have three distinct levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award.
To qualify for an award, a wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections, Wine Spectator says on their website.
Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, and the overall presentation of the list is also considered, Wine Spectator noted.
All award winners are featured in the Aug. 31 issue of Wine Spectator, available on newsstands July 11.
