GREENWICH, CT — If you’re like many of your Greenwich neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Greenwich area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Abilis: supports more than 800 individuals with disabilities and their families from birth throughout adulthood in Fairfield County.
  2. Golden Lights Foundation: aims to find and fund cutting-edge pediatric cancer research to eliminate barriers that prevent potential life-changing treatments from being used on the children who need them.
  3. Neighbor to Neighbor: aims to create access to food, clothing and basic living essentials.
  4. Family Centers: offers education, health and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County.
  5. YWCA of Greenwich: dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
