Arrest Made In 2017 Armed Robbery Of Bank, Greenwich Police Announce

Through "extensive investigative work," Greenwich police said Monday they identified a suspect in connection with a 2017 armed robbery.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department on Monday announced an arrest in connection with a 2017 armed robbery that occurred at a downtown bank.

Jose Luis Martinez, 35, was extradited to Greenwich Monday from Federal Correctional Institution in Lewis Run, Pa.

An arrest warrant out of Greenwich charged Martinez with three counts of first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a pistol/revolver, and second-degree larceny.

On Jan. 25, 2017, Greenwich police responded to an armed robbery at Patriot Bank on Mason Street.

"Officers arrived within seconds, initiating rapid search, containment, and investigative efforts. A vehicle matching the suspect’s description fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit into New York before the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A coordinated multi-agency search followed," police said.

The suspect fled with cash and no one was injured in the robbery, police said at the time.

Through "extensive investigative work," Greenwich detectives identified Martinez as a suspect, police said Monday.

"The Greenwich Police Department would like to recognize the great work of all personnel and partner agencies involved in this case," police added. "Their professionalism, cooperation, and persistence were instrumental in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion."
