Black Out for China White

The popular noodle bar Chinawhite that had foodies fawning over its authentic Chinese cuisine of noodles, spring rolls and soft buns recently closed its doors on Railroad Avenue.

China White had moved into the space formerly occupied by the Japanese restaurant Saito in late spring. One of the many previous incarnations for the 249 Railroad Ave. site was a car dealership for the zippy little Lotus.

Chinawhite is owned by the Greenwich-based cB5 restaurant group which also owns the crowd-drawing Lolita Cucina on Mill Street in the Byram section of Greenwich. And last week, there was paper covering the walls of windows and 'for rent' signs hung outside the door and on the marquis.

According to Chinawhite's website, "We will be relocating Chinawhite Greenwich to Greenwich Avenue in February and opening in Scarsdale Village, NY, January and Westport, CT later this winter. In the meantime, please join us at our flagship in Purchase, NY."

So car dealerships, Japanese and now Chinese restaurants don't seem to have a rush to success at the site. What would you like to see move into this location that's close to downtown and a stone's throw—albeit a block-and-a-half long throw—from the Greenwich train station?
