Car Slams Into Greenwich Storefront, Driver Injured: Police

The car was damaged after striking the window of a Chopt Creative Salad Co. restaurant while customers were inside, according to witnesses.

GREENWICH, CT — A driver's leg was injured after their car struck the window of a Chopt Creative Salad Co. restaurant Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Police Capt. Mark Zuccerella confirmed in an email to Patch the vehicle hit the storefront, located at 1271 East Putnam Avenue inside the Riverside Commons Shopping Center.

The car struck the window of the business around 12:30 p.m. as customers, including a Patch reporter, were inside the building, causing a loud banging sound and sending glass flying into the restaurant. No customer injuries were reported.

Zuccerella said the crash was accidental and the driver suffered a possible broken leg.

The building was checked and found to be structurally sound, Zuccerella said. He also noted he was unsure if the case was still active as of Monday afternoon.

The vehicle was damaged in the crash, and police, fire and EMS quickly responded to the shopping center, according to witnesses.

After the crash Sunday, an employee said the store would temporarily close. An employee who answered the phone Monday afternoon said the restaurant had reopened.
