Congrats to Convent of the Sacred Heart

Convent of the Sacred Heart’s Middle School sent two teams to the FIRST LEGO League’s qualifying event for the state championship, and they came home winners.

The championship was held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Greenwich Academy, and the fifth-grade team, Titanium Tigers, won the entire competition and was awarded the Championship Award.

They excelled in all three areas of the competition – robotics, teamwork and solving a real world program. Their hard work and outstanding efforts were noted by the judges, who said the award was presented to the team that “embodies the FIRST LEGO League experience by fully embracing our core values while achieving excellence and innovation in both robot game and project.”

The fifth-graders were a rookie team in this year’s competition, bringing their team spirit to an event that is considered a “sport for the mind.” Team members included Nailah Archer, Olivia Caponiti, Moira King, Elsa Latrille, Jayne Mangan, Laura O’Connor, Moira King, Josephine Orr, Lily O’Sullivan, and Kate Papadatos. They competed against teams four teams from the Brunswick School and two teams from Greenwich Academy, among other regional schools.

The Tech Tigers team, consisting of sixth- and and seventh-grade students, won the Judges Award for excelling in all areas of the competition. Team members included Helen Bass, Caitlyn Dahnke, MaryGrace Farrell, Alana Frederick, Cailin Gordon, Caroline Hisler, Le-Anne Johnson, Catriona Marangi, Ashley Morgner, Ella Reidenouer, Ayla Shively, and Grace Turner.

Both teams qualified to compete in the Connecticut state championship, which will be held on Saturday, December 5 at Shelton High School. We are very proud of our Middle School robotics teams and wish them every success as they advance to the state level.
