GREENWICH, CT — The food scene in Byram has been turned up a notch with the addition of Domenick's Pizza at 226 Mill St.

Owned by Domenick Pisano Jr., who was born and raised in Cos Cob, the business officially opened its doors on Monday after it had soft-opened for a week.

"Everybody's just dying to have a pizzeria here," Pisano told Patch Monday after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. "The small Byram community here — I've just gotten tremendous reactions from everybody and everyone is very happy."

While traditional New York-style pizza is a staple on the menu, there's something to satisfy everyone, from organic, non-GMO Belle & Evans chicken wings (six different flavors), salads and hot Italian and steak sandwiches, to hot dogs, hamburgers, and Northern Italian classics in pasta dishes and entrees.

"It's a full Italian menu of old family recipes," said Pisano, who also owns Boss Burger in Norwalk. He previously owned Domenick's Gourmet Deli, also in Norwalk.

"I brought our famous burgers from Boss Burger onto the menu, and our famous Italian sandwiches from the deli onto this menu. This menu is a combination of the couple different places I've had."

Pizza can be purchased by the slice or in small, medium or large pies. There are a variety of specialty pies, ranging from meat lovers, to the Stinger, which has Italian long hots and a drizzle of hot oil on top. Customers can of course create their own pizza from a list of toppings. Gluten free crust and vegan cheese are available.

Italian cold cuts are imported for a variety of sandwiches, such as The Goomba, which comes on a seeded wedge from Arthur Avenue's Terranova Bakery and features prosciutto di parma, fresh mozzarella, hot soppressata, hot capicola, Italian long hot peppers, lettuce, tomato, basil and extra virgin olive oil.

The steak sandwich is a favorite of Pisano's, as it's made with 100 percent ribeye steak and comes either with cheese and chilli, or cheese, onions and peppers.

Hamburgers are hand-pressed Omaha beef smash-burgers served on Terranova brioche buns. The Brekkie Burger is topped with bacon, runny egg, American cheese, ketchup and hot sauce, while the St. Moritz has melted Finlandia Swiss, grilled balsamic portobello mushrooms, bacon, house-made crunchy onions and smokey steak sauce.

Customers can create their own pasta dishes from a variety of options, and entrees include Italian classics like chicken scarpariello and eggplant parmesan.

Another highlight of the menu is Pisano's mother's fried eggplant patties, which come as an appetizer. They're made with a mixture of eggplant, sweet Italian peppers and Italian long hot peppers.

The menu also has daily lunch specials.

Located in the former space of Fuzari's Pizzeria and Byram Pizza Company, there are a few seats inside.

First Selectman Fred Camillo was at Domenick's Pizza for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday. He said the opening continues a trend in Byram.

"This is just a continuation of what Byram has been doing for the last several years," Camillo said, pointing to other new restaurants in the area, a new New Lebanon School, and Byram Park. "I say it's like a Little Hoboken or our Little Brooklyn. It's a great place to live, a great walking community, and has just about everything you could want."

Liz Eckert, chair of the Byram Neighborhood Association, was also at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

"On behalf of the Byram Neighborhood Association, we're absolutely thrilled to welcome Domenick's to our neighborhood," she said. "We wish them every success."

Domenick's Pizza is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Delivery is available through Grubhub, Uber Eats and Doordash.
