GREENWICH, CT — Mark Teixeira, a former Greenwich resident and World Series champion for the New York Yankees, has announced a campaign for Congress in Texas' 21st District.

Teixeira, 45, announced his campaign on Thursday in a social media post.

"As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I'm ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional," Teixeira said in his announcement. "It takes teamwork to win, and I'm ready to help defend President Trump's America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty."

Following his playing career, Teixeira spent four years with ESPN as a baseball analyst in Bristol.

In 2021, Teixeira sold his Greenwich estate for $7 million. He bought the six-bedroom, 8.5 bathroom home for $6.7 million in March 2009, according to realtor.com.

Last month, Teixeira was spotted in Greenwich dining at Tony's at the J House, located within the J House boutique hotel at 1114 E. Putnam Ave.

U.S. Congressman Chip Roy, a Republican, recently announced that he will not seek re-election in Texas' 21st District, and will instead run for state attorney general.

Teixeira is no stranger to Texas. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers and played for them for five years.

"Playing for the Texas Rangers and raising my family in the Lone Star State has been one of the greatest blessings of my life," Teixeira noted. "Now I'm ready to answer the call to serve my country, my state, and the conservative principles that have made Texas the envy of the nation."

In his announcement, Teixeira pledged to "work with President Trump to secure the border, grow the economy, end radical woke indoctrination, promote American energy independence, defend life and the Second Amendment, end forever wars, and strengthen the military."

"I will campaign hard, meet Texans across the district, and earn every vote. In Congress, I'll always stand up for the real heroes - our men and women in uniform, police officers and firefighters, farmers and ranchers, parents, teachers, and hard-working taxpayers," Teixeira added.

Born in Annapolis, Md., Teixeira is the son of a Navy veteran father and a schoolteacher mother.

He currently lives in central Texas with his wife, Leigh, and three children.
