Giants Owner's Nephew Arrested for Assault

The 22-year-old nephew of Giants owner John Mara surrendered to Fairfield police on charges that he allegedly hit a man over the head with a bottle at a New Year's Eve party, according to release from the Fairfield Police Department.

The suspect, whose name is also John Mara, is a resident of Mount Kisco and is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He posted a $150,000 bond following his arrest Feb. 22 and is due to appear in court on March 8.

According to police, the incident occurred on Fairfield Beach Road near Fairfield University and the victim, whose name has not been released, received "serious life-threatening injuries that required immediate surgery."

Mara's lawyer Willam Dow told lohud.com that Mara plans to plead not guilty to the charges. A spokesperson for the Giants said no comment would be released by the team.
