Greenwich Agency Replaces Firefighter's Stolen Wheelchair

The Needs Clearing House arranged to replace the power wheelchair that was stolen from the Stamford resident during the holidays.

Stamford resident Harold Novack was the victim of a Grinch during the Christmas holiday.

The former volunteer firefighter at Stamford’s Glenbrook Fire Department suffers from muscular dystrophy and he relies upon a power wheelchair to travel outside his Shippan Avenue home.

Sometime over the Christmas holiday, his power wheelchair was stolen, according to Joe Kaliko, co-founder of The Needs Clearing House, a Greenwich-based philanthropic organization that helps families and human and social service agencies in Fairfield County.

According to Kaliko, “Harold loved to wheel across the street to Fire Station 4 on Shippan Avenue and talk about the old days when he was a volunteer firefighter at the Stamford Glenbrook Station where he served as a volunteer.”

On Friday, Harold was visited by State Rep. John Shaban, a supporter of volunteer firefighters in the state; and was joined by his wife Marianne, Kaliko and his firefighter friends, to celebrate the gift of a new $5,000 power wheelchair donated by the Needs Clearing House.
