Update: 11:10 p.m.

Greenwich Republicans celebrated First Selectman Peter Tesei’s election to a fifth term at the Milbrook Club in central Greenwich.

Tesei had another landslide victory to continue as the town’s chief elected official. The vote tallies — that won’t become official until validated by Town Clerk Carmella Budkins who easily won reelection to a 13th term — show that Democratic First Selectman candidate (and town committee chair) Frank Farricker received the least number of votes of all the Democratic candidates.

The unofficial vote tally for the selectmen races: Farricker had 2,443; Tesei, 7,393; petition candidate James Reilly, 126; Democrat Drew Marzullo, 4,400 and Republican John Toner, 5,271.

The unofficial votes for Tax Collector, Democrat Howard Richman, 3,329; incumbent Republican Tod Laudonia, 5,984.

For Board of Education, two members from each party could win. Incumbent Democrat Jennifer Dayton had 4,107 votes; newcomers Dr. Gaetane Francis, 4,668 and Anthony Lope, 3,677. On the Republican side, incumbents Barbara O’Neill received 6,074 votes, and Peter vonBraun, 5,898 with newcomer Lauren Rabin receiving 6,377 votes.

“I am humbled by the vote of support. The voters have spoken and I like what they had to say,” Tesei said. “I thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve the town that I love so much and it would not be possible without all of you.”

He added, “We conveyed a message to put the people of Greenwich first. It always is about the people of Greenwich. This election is not about me, but we. I am humbled to continue to serve.”

Tesei also paid tribute to his former colleague Dave Theis, who passed away unexpectedly last December and had planned to run for reelection Nov. 3. Tesei pounded the lectern as he said, “Dave is with us in spirit looking over us” and then recited the infamous quote from the Knute Rockney film to “win one for the Gipper.”

It was a somewhat subdued atmosphere at the Greenwich Senior/Arts Center where the Greenwich Democrats gathered to watch returns. As the party faithful discussed the results as they were phoned in by poll watchers, Farricker said when asked for a comment on the continuing voting trend that indicated his defeat and whether he called to concede to Tesei, “I don’t call Peter. I have nothing to say … I’m happy I ran. It was fun.”

Farricker’s defeat comes days after Gov. Dannel Malloy made a whistle stop campaign appearance at the Greenwich train station on his behalf and fellow Greenwich Democrat, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes endorsed him.

Update: 9:55 p.m.

Republican Peter Tesei handily won a fifth term as Greenwich’s First Selectman, defeating Democratic challenger Frank Farricker and petition candidate James Reilly.

In what was a rematch of Tesei and Farricker, who first ran against one another in 2007, Tesei received about 74 % of the 10,208 votes cast.

The composition of the three-member Board of Selectmen will remain intact with Democrat Drew Marzullo winning a fourth term. Republican John Toner, won his first full two-year term . Toner was appointed to the board in January to fill the unexpired term of Dave Theis who died unexpectedly in December.

In the Board of Education races, Republican incumbent Barbara O’Neill, the current board chair, won as did newcomer Lauren Rabin. Incumbent one-term Republican Peter vonBraun lost. On the Democratic side, incumbent board vice chair Jennifer Dayton won as did newcomer Dr. Gaetane Francis. Anthony Lopez lost.

Republican Tax Collector Tod Laudonia won a third term over Democratic challenger Howard Richman.

Original story: 7:45 p.m.

With less than 15 minutes before the polls close, a third of Greenwich’s 30,318 eligible voters have cast ballots on Election Day.

According to voter tabulations, 10,129 residents or 33.42% of eligible voters voted.

Incumbent Republican First Selectman Peter Tesei is seeking a fifth two-year term and is being challenged by Democrat Frank Farricker and petition candidate James Reilly. The Tesei — Farricker match-up is the second time the pair have faced one another. Tesei, a former bank executive, beat Farricker, who works in real estate, in 2007.

The Board of Selectmen candidates are Democrat Drew Marzullo who is seeking a fourth term, and Republican John Toner who is seeking his first full two-year term. Toner was appointed to the board in January to fill the unexpired term of Dave Theis who died unexpectedly in December.

The other competitive races include:

Greenwich Board of Education

Only two candidates from each party may be elected and for the first time in years, both parties have three nominees. On the Republican side, the candidates are incumbents Chairman Barbara O’Neill and Peter vonBraun, and newcomer Lauren Rabin. On the Democratic ticket are incumbent Jennifer Dayton, the board vice chair, and newcomers Dr. Gaetane Francis and Anthony Lopez.

Tax Collector

Republican incumbent Tod Laudonia is seeking a third term. Democratic challenger Howard Richman has campaigned on his platform issue of making the tax collector position an appointed one rather than elected. Richman said an appointed tax collector would help save the town money and create greater efficiency.
