Greenwich GOP Committee Chair Endorses Trump

Outgoing Chairman Jim Campbell has endorsed the former Greenwich resident.

The outgoing chairman of the Greenwich Republican Town Committee has endorsed Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

Chairman Jim Campbell told Hearst Connecticut Media that he doesn’t believe 2016 is a year to elect another Bush.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, whose family roots are in Greenwich, withdrew from the crowded GOP field on Feb. 20 after soundly losing in the South Carolina primary. Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush grew up in Greenwich where several Bush relatives continue to live.

Of his endorsement of Trump, who also is a former Greenwich resident, Campbell told Hearst Connecticut, “I think he offers the best opportunity for our party to recapture the White House and provide new leadership” and that the candidate has many silent supporters.

Campbell announced last month that he would not seek a fourth term as chair of the Greenwich RTC which is slated to elect his successor next month.
