Greenwich PD Is Offering Youth Police Academy

Teens can learn about the operations of the police department and career choices.

The Greenwich Police Department is accepting applications for the 2016 Youth Citizen’s Police Academy.

The five-day program will begin on Monday, June 27, and will finish on Friday, July 1, at the Greenwich Police Department.

Applicants must be Greenwich residents or children of Town of Greenwich employees who are entering 7th-, 8th-, or 9th-grade in the fall of 2016.

The program fee is a $95 and will provide each participant with a YCPA T-Shirts, Certificate of Completion, and a BBQ Lunch on the final day of class. Scholarships are available upon request.

The class is limited to 40 students and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Completed application packets must be received at the Greenwich Police Department Community Impact Section by June 10.

The Youth Citizen’s Police Academy provides Greenwich boys and girls with a first-hand overview of both law enforcement and community-related functions of the police department and will include overviews of:

  • Introduction to Policing
  • SRU/ K9
  • Motor Vehicle Stops
  • 911 Call Center
  • Introduction to Forensics Introduction to Police Firearms
  • Community Impact Section
  • Crime Prevention
  • Marine Section / Police Boat Ride-along Juvenile Matters
  • Physical Training

Instructors for the program are Greenwich Police Officers who lead role-playing exercises. Attendees will accompany on-duty police personnel within the Marine Division on a police boat ride-along as well as a demonstration at the police firing range.

Applications may be obtained in person at the Greenwich Police Department front desk, Greenwich Town Hall reception desk, or downloaded from the Town of Greenwich web site www.greenwichct.org.
