Here’s Why Scarlett Was Shouted Out As A Greenwich Star Student

GREENWICH, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Diane Reidy Lagunes, MD, who nominated Scarlett of Greenwich, Connecticut.

How do you know the star local student?

She shadowed me at MSKCC where I am a medical oncologist

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

I am recognizing this star student with tremendous enthusiasm because I have never met a kid as resilient, brave, and kind as Scarlett. I have known Scarlett for several years as she was treated at MSKCC as a child and now she is giving back. She has a passion to help others fighting these terrible diseases and she is doing so in innumerable ways.

First, she has been on the MSK Board for Kid’s Walk to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

Second, she is co-founder of the Scarlett Fund Cards Project where kids and adults from around the country send holiday cards for patients and staff. Scarlett has done this project fo many years and this year came to MSK to distribute those cards with me.

Third, she has shadowed me in my clinic as a student to see how she can learn and help others.

In summary, Scarlett is an extraordinary young woman. She is mature beyond her years, and she is making the world a better place. She is a star!
