Veterans Day is this Wednesday, Nov. 11. It is a local, state and federal holiday meaning municipal offices and the U.S. Postal Service are closed as are most banks. However, some school districts will have classes.

Parades, ceremonies and other observances will be held in communities around the region to honor all of our veterans who have served or made the ultimate sacrifice.

In Greenwich, the Greenwich Military Covenant of Care will hold its annual Community Walk to honor veterans at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. About 700 people are expected to gather on Greenwich Avenue and Amogerone Crossway and with a police and fire escort, march down the avenue to the war memorial in front of the Board of Education headquarters at 290 Greenwich Ave.

While the walk recognizes the service of all veterans, this year 50 veterans of the Vietnam War are expected to attend to be recognized for their service during the conflict that began 50 years ago.
