Longford's Ice Cream Celebrates Grand Opening Of Greenwich Scoop Shop
The popular ice cream brand has expanded into Connecticut with a scoop shop in Greenwich.

GREENWICH, CT — Longford's Ice Cream, the beloved local brand that's been serving up delicious sweet treats for over 30 years, celebrated the grand opening of its first Connecticut scoop shop in Glenville on Saturday.
Located at 21 Glen Ridge Road within the Glenville Shopping Center, Longford's first opened last November in time for the holiday season in the space formerly occupied by Sweet Notes, another ice cream shop.
The shopping center has seen an influx of tenants recently, with Luca's Pizzeria and Italian Kitchen opening in 2024, and Green & Tonic, which is set to open Monday, April 7. A DeCicco & Sons grocery store will also open in the shopping center.

"I'm excited to connect with the Greenwich community," said shop owner Christine Santorelli, who has owned the Rye, N.Y. scoop shop since 1999. She's been with Longford's since 1995. "Everyone's been very welcoming. Everyone is excited to have Longford's closer to their home."
Longford's offers small batch handmade ice cream, gelato, sorbet, fat free soft serve, non-dairy vegan ice cream, ice cream cakes and cookie trays. Takeout quarts and pints are also available.

Overall, the brand makes 75 different flavors, according to Longford's President Ralph Pietrafesa.
In addition to Glenville, there are scoop shops in Armonk, Larchmont, and Rye, N.Y. A factory outlet with seven ice cream machines is in Stamford.
Longford's also wholesales to several ice cream shops in Westchester County, N.Y., and to Cups N' Cones of Old Greenwich, which is located at 235 Sound Beach Ave.
"It's a nice regional brand," Pietrafesa said. "We make everything by hand in small batches, and we use quality ingredients. We have access to ingredients that some people who are just making ice cream in the back of their store don't have access to."
There are about 36 flavors available in Glenville, Santorelli noted.
"So far, the favorites in Glenville have been the salted Oreo, Cookie Monster, and Coffee Chunk," Santorelli said.
Popular seasonal flavors like Georgia Peach, Strawberry Cheesecake and Passionfruit sorbet are coming soon.
Santorelli noted that Longford's was named best ice cream in the Best of Westchester 2024 voting.
"It's very creamy. It's refreshing on a hot day, it's a comfort in the winter. It makes everyone happy," she said.
The company was started in Port Chester, N.Y. in 1992 by Nolan and Patricia West.
After years of expanding retail and wholesale operations, Longford's moved its ice cream making operations to Stamford in 2017.
Further expansion could be on the horizon.
"We are expanding our brand into the Connecticut area through licensed stores," Pietrafesa said. An ownership program is now available.
Longford's in Glenville is currently open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The business is closed on Mondays.
