Popular French Bakery & Café To Open Greenwich Location

GREENWICH, CT —Maman, a popular French bakery and café based in New York City, is expanding to Connecticut with a new location in Greenwich.

Opening on June 18 at 98 Greenwich Ave., the provençal-inspired café, which was founded by Eliza Marshall and Benjamin Sormonte, will bring its fan-favorite salads, sandwiches, and nutty chocolate chip cookies made-famous-by-Oprah to the Greenwich community.

"Greenwich has always been a dream for us when it came to expanding maman beyond New York City. We are so excited to finally be a part of this community and to introduce some of our family-inspired recipes and sought-after pastries to the neighborhood," Marshall told Patch. "Our new space offers a beautiful spacious floor plan and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe providing our Greenwich customers with a refreshing take from most of our bustling city locations."

Marshall and Sormonte founded Maman in 2014, with their first location in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan at 239 Centre St. Maman has expanded throughout the city and into New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Canada. Greenwich marks the brand's 30th location overall.

The menu for Greenwich has not been posted yet.

Menu items at other locations in NYC include Maman classics like Belgian waffles, which are topped with a blueberry pomegranate compote, crème fraîche, a dusting of powdered sugar and fresh mint; or a breakfast sandwich with homemade bourbon bacon jam, avocado and oven-roasted tomatoes topped with a fried egg on a cornmeal focaccia bun.

There are a variety of salads and soups, sandwiches and tartines, and of course, coffee, pastries and sweets, from different croissants and focaccias to homemade Oreos, brownies and cookies.

The interior space measures 2,300 square feet, and the location is available to host events. Decor will feature florals, signature toile print, and vintage and antique furniture, all drawing inspiration from the South of France.

Maman Greenwich will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On opening day on June 18, Maman will have a cookbook signing with Marshall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and a Father’s Day special, serving a complimentary "S’mores A La Minute Cookie" for dads with any purchase.
