Man Claims Greenwich Police Officer Used Excessive Force

The allegation was made in a lawsuit filed in federal court.

A Greenwich Police motorcycle officer has been accused of using excessive force when he stopped a motorist for using a cell phone while driving, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport.

A lawyer for 76-year-old Edmund Schwesinger Jr., of Greenwich, made the allegation in legal documents that reportedly included claims the man tried to explain to Officer Daniel Hendrie that he was enroute to Greenwich Hospital where his wife was in serious condition, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

The incident occurred in November 2013 and Schwesinger claims he suffered eye, shoulder and neck injuries when Hendrie arrested him on a resisting arrest charge and is seeking unspecified monetary damages, according to the report. Schwesinger claims Hendrie stopped Schwesinger on Arch Street who explained the situation and asked the officer to follow him to the hospital.
