In Memoriam: John A. 'Bosh' Chrusz Sr.

The founding member of the Glenville 9th District Veterans passed away Feb. 28 at the age of 93.

John A. 'Bosh' Chrusz Sr. passed away peacefully on February 28, 2016 at the age of 93.

John was born on November 25, 1922 to the late Anthony and Agnes Chrusz.

He attended St. Mary’s and Greenwich High and graduated in 1942. John enlisted in the army at the age of 18, from 1942 to 1946 with the rank of sergeant. While serving his country he trained Army Air Corp in Florida and Colorado before being deployed to Saipan where he served from 1944-1946.

After the war he played baseball in the Atlantic Industrial League which traveled from Maine to Virginia. John was employed by Electrolux in Old Greenwich until its closing and then caretaker of the Gimbel estate until his retirement.

John is one of the three original founding members of the Ninth District Veterans, was past Commander and Treasurer. He was instrumental in financing and organizing the efforts for the permanent monument in the Glenville Green. He took great pride in reading the names off the monument each and every year at the 9th District Veteran’s day parade.

He had many fond memories of being a member of the Greenwich Boys Club and playing the bugle for the Memorial Day parades. Bosh enjoyed boating on his boat the Pixie Pat, bowling, gardening, dancing the polka, tinkering in his workshop and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his loving wife Patricia Capalbo Chrusz; his son John Chrusz Jr., daughters Jane Orlando ( Louis ), and Joann Zaleski ( John ). He will be missed by his adoring grandchildren, Louis and Joseph Orlando, Andrea and John Zaleski, Jr, as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by a brother Stephen Chrusz and a sister Mary Miazga.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at 10 A.M, St. Paul’s Church, 84 Sherwood Ave., Greenwich. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name to St. Paul’s Church is requested.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff on the 3rd floor at Greenwich Hospital and Calvary Hospital Hospice 3rd floor for their professionalism, expert care and support. The family gives their heartfelt gratitude to caregiver Sandra whose help was invaluable.
