In Memoriam: Peter Gasparino

The long-time Greenwich resident and former teacher, football coach passed away Nov. 7 at the age of 81.

Peter Gasparino, 81, of Stamford, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 at The Nathaniel Witherell.

Born in Greenwich, on July 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph Gasparino and Lucy Yantorno Gasparino.

A graduate of Greenwich High School, Peter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received his BS from Fairmont State University in West Virginia. He received his MS in Education from the University of Bridgeport. Peter became Recreational Supervisor for the Town of Greenwich for three years. He then became a teacher, football coach and drama director at St. Mary High School from 1963-1983.

Leaving teaching he became vice president of Temco Building Maintenance for 27 years. He served on the Board of Estimate and Taxation in Greenwich for 24 years, the Community Development Block Grant Committee in Greenwich for 15 years, as a member of the Byram-Cos Cob Rotary Club for more than 25 years, member of the Knights of Columbus for over 55 years and the Recreation Board of the Town of Greenwich for five years.

Peter is survived by his longtime companion Nan Markel; three daughters, Bernadette, Cathy and Ellen; a sister, Barbara; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his daughter Laura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 A.M. in St. Roch Church, 10 Saint Roch Ave., Greenwich. Friends may call at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich from 4 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, Nov. 9.
