New Commissioner Of Greenwich Public Works Announced

GREENWICH, CT — James Michel has been appointed the new Commissioner of the Department of Public Works for Greenwich, officials announced Monday.

The appointment is effective Jan. 1.

Michel succeeds Amy Siebert, who officials said has served the town with distinction since 2004.

“Jim brings nearly 30 years of civil engineering expertise and over a decade of dedicated service to the Town of Greenwich DPW,” officials wrote in a news release. “Since joining in 2011, Jim has played a pivotal role in transforming Greenwich’s infrastructure through significant improvements, securing over $30 million in grants, and introducing innovative technologies to enhance the Town’s public works operations. His accomplishments include overseeing award-winning initiatives such as the revitalization of a coastal brownfield site into a public park, an intersection enhancement in the historic downtown, and numerous bridge replacements that have strengthened the Town’s transportation network.

“As Deputy Commissioner, Jim led several major projects including adaptive traffic signal technology installation—the first of their kind in Connecticut. His leadership style is rooted in collaboration, creativity, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving, which will undoubtedly guide DPW toward continued success.”

Michel holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut and a graduate of the APWA Emerging Leaders Academy.
