Peter Barton Dott passed away on April 17, 2024 after a long illness at age 78. He was born in Rockville Center, New York, the son of the late Andrew Berwick Dott and Louise Barton Dott. Peter grew up on the water in Lloyd’s Neck, New York where he learned to swim and sail. He attended Friends Academy in Locust Valley and graduated from Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, New York. He spent his college years at Syracuse University and received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the University of Washington.

Peter’s early adult life was spent in New York City where he first worked in finance at White Weld, Kuhn Loeb and L.F. Rothchild eventually transitioning to a successful career at Northwestern Mutual. Peter spent many years as a bachelor where he enjoyed socializing with friends at his many clubs. He was a lifetime member of New York Yacht Club where he served for many years on the Membership and Race Committees. He enjoyed spending time at the Quogue Field Club, the Newport Reading Room and the Trout Club in Vermont.

Finally Peter’s bachelor life came to an end when mutual sailing friends introduced him to the recently widowed Jennifer Thompson Mayer. They married and Peter moved to Greenwich where he became stepfather to Mimi Mayer. Peter spent a quarter of a century in Greenwich where he was a member of Indian Harbor Yacht Club, serving on the board, the Horseneck Club and Greenwich Country Club. While he came to it late, family life and dogs became very important to Peter. Peter walked Mimi down the aisle when she married Michael Leone and in recent years was thrilled to welcome grandson Grant and granddaughter Gwyneth Leone on whom he doted.

Peter is survived by his wife Jennifer, stepdaughter Melinda Leone (Michael), grandchildren Grant and Gwyneth Leone of Branford, CT; brother Andrew Berwick Dott Jr. (Caroline) of Atlanta; nieces Dr. Mary Dott (Scott DePlonty) of Decatur GA; Amy Rossi-Espagnet (James) of Roswell, GA; and Rebecca Jackson (Scott) of Brookhaven, GA.
