Smelly Trail of Evidence Leads to DUI Arrest
A Greenwich Police officer said he cold smell 'burnt marijuana' as he followed a driver who veered over double yellow line.

A motorist is facing a driving under the influence charge after allegedly leaving a smelly trail of evidence for the Greenwich Police officer who was following her.
It was about 10:20 p.m. Nov. 13 when an officer driving on Riversville Road near John Street, saw the car in front him “veer over the double yellow line and back towards the white shoulder line several times,” according to a police report.
Officer James Ruszkowski also wrote, “I also could smell the distinct odor of burnt marijuana while driving behind the … vehicle.”

When Ruszkowski stopped the driver, he asked if the driver or her passenger had marijuana inside the car. The passenger “produced a blunt … a further search of the vehicle yielded … marijuana some of which was packaged for sale, and paraphernalia,” according to his report. Two open bottles of Modelo beer also were found on the passenger floor.
The driver, identified as Marisol Gonzalez, 22, of Alto Avenue, Port Chester, was charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive in proper lane, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. She was released after posting $260 bond.

Gonzalez’ passenger, Gerardo Garcia, 21, of Armett Street, also in Port Chester, was charged with illegal possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
Both were given Nov. 20 court dates.
