State Rep. Rachel Khanna Endorsed By Planned Parenthood Votes CT

Incumbent state Rep. Rachel Khanna (D-149) was also endorsed by the group in 2022.

GREENWICH, CT — Rachel Khanna, incumbent state representative for the 149th district, announced she has earned the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Votes Connecticut. Khanna was also endorsed in 2022.

“I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood in the fight for reproductive freedom,” said Rachel Khanna. “As a mom to four daughters and a former patient escort at Planned Parenthood in Stamford, guaranteeing safe and accessible women’s healthcare is personal for me. As a legislator, I remain steadfast in my commitment to protecting a woman’s right to choose. Planned Parenthood’s endorsement is a badge of honor and a vote of confidence from one of the leading organizations voters trust when it comes to identifying a candidate to count on to defend reproductive rights.”

Since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision in 2022 ending the federal constitutional right to abortion, protecting women’s access to reproductive care has fallen on state legislatures around the country. Twenty-two states have now banned or severely restricted abortion care.

In 2022, Connecticut legislators took urgent action by passing the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act – a law that improves abortion access in Connecticut, strengthens legal protections for healthcare providers, and shields patient privacy. Rachel Khanna supports this landmark legislation. In contrast, her opponent Tina Courpas has written that she opposes that law.
Planned Parenthood Votes CT describes the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act as “the most significant abortion rights legislation in a generation.”

Since taking office, Rachel Khanna has been resolute in her defense of reproductive rights, by voting to further expand protections for reproductive healthcare providers, allowing pharmacists to prescribe emergency contraceptives, directing state colleges to provide reproductive health resources to students, improving access to fertility treatment and expanding Medicaid coverage for long-term contraceptives.
