UPDATE: More Greenwich Road Closures in Storm Aftermath

The storm damage has left thousands without power in town.

UPDATE: 3:23 p.m.

Eversource is reporting that there are still more than 2,100 outages in Greenwich caused by the overnight storms have been repaired as of 3 p.m.

Greenwich Police said only two roads remain closed — Creamer Hill and Lower Cross.

From early Wednesday evening until midnight, police received 24 reports of downed trees and utility wires from the Greenwich waterfront in Byram to the backcountry including Old Mill, Round Hill, and Stanwich roads, to Brownhouse Road on the Old Greenwich border of Stamford.

At the height of the outages Thursday morning, nearly 4,100 Greenwich customers were without power.

UPDATE: 10:09 A.M.

The aftermath of the overnight storm is continuing to wreak havoc with local traffic.

Greenwich Public Schools are advising those who want to access Central Middle School and surrounding areas:

“Orchard is CLOSED between Vallywood Road (South of Orchard) and Indian Rock Road (North end of Orchard). Drivers and walkers should detour to STANWICH ROAD for access. Greenwich Police Department is on site directing traffic.”

Greenwich Emergency Dispatch has posted these road closures:

  • Route 1(Post Rd) is CLOSED between Strickland Rd and Suburban Avenue in Cos Cob, wires and a pole leaning over roadway.
  • Riversville Rd is closed at Thunder Mountain.
  • Palmer Hill is closed at Old Orchard. These have been closed all night and will stay closed.

As of 10:02 a.m., there are 2,965 Eversource customers still without power.

UPDATE: 8:35 a.m.

Greenwich Public Schools in a notice sent at 8:29 a.m. Thursday announced:

“The Superintendent has just announced that North Mianus School (only) is CLOSED today, Thursday, February 25, 2016 due to power outage.

All other schools are operational and running on a 2-hour delayed opening schedule.”

Throughout the state there are about 75,000 customers without power because of the damaging winds and thunderstorms that rolled through overnight. Details can be found here.

And Metro-North is now reporting that trains are operating on schedule.

UPDATE: 7:40 A.M.

Power outages around Greenwich continue to grow.

As of 7:40 a.m. there are 4,064 customers without power, according to Eversource. At 5:45 a.m., there were about 2,500 customers who didn’t have electricity.

Metro-North Railroad is advising that there delays of up to 15 minutes because of wire damage between Greenwich and Rye, NY.

There is one additional delayed opening for schools — Brunswick School has now announced a two-hour delay.

Greenwich Country Day announced school will open on time but buses are operating on a two-hour delay.

The school also announced: “Fairfield Road is currently closed due to a downed tree. Please use Old Church Road (from the Post Road or North Street) to enter and exit campus.”

Because of electrical outages and damage caused by the overnight storms, Greenwich Public Schools have announced the start of classes will be delayed by two hours on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Also announcing delayed start of classes are:

  • Convent of the Sacred Heart: two-hour delay.
  • Greenwich Academy: two-hour delay.
  • Stanwich School: two-hour delay.
  • Whitby School — classes begin at 10 a.m.
