Town Of Greenwich Continuing To Monitor 'Strong' Nor'Easter

GREENWICH, CT — The town of Greenwich on Friday afternoon announced it is closely monitoring a "strong" nor'easter that's forecast to impact Greenwich and the surrounding region beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch beginning Sunday at 8 a.m. through Monday at 8 p.m.

"Residents should be prepared for potential coastal flooding as well as flooding along rivers and streams in Greenwich," the town said in an announcement. "The forecast currently calls for one to three inches of rain along with the potential for heavy winds, so residents should be ready for possible downed trees and power lines, which could result in power outages."
Eversource Energy has assured the town that it's prepared for the potential impact of the storm and has a support number set up at 1-800-286-2000.

Greenwich residents should also be careful of potentially hazardous travel conditions during periods of heavy rain and strong wind.
Residents should monitor the weather throughout the weekend to make sure they have the most up-to-date forecasts and should prepare by securing outdoor items like patio furniture, decorations and trash bins.
All cell phones and electronics should be charged in case of power outages. The Margenot Atrium at the Greenwich Public Safety Complex will be open 24 hours for people to come in and charge small electronic devices.
During times of heavy rain, residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways, and should avoid downed power lines.
Greenwich’s Emergency Management Department will monitor conditions throughout the weekend and will provide updates as needed.
