Driver Killed In Vehicle Crash, Greenwich Police Say

The vehicle caught fire following the crash early Friday morning, according to police.

GREENWICH, CT — A driver was killed early Friday morning after a vehicle crash and subsequent fire near Byram Park, according to the Greenwich Police Department.

Police have not released the identity of the driver as of Friday afternoon.

At approximately 5:16 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision near the entrance of Byram Park on Ritch Avenue West.

Officers found the vehicle on fire, and emergency personnel responded to extinguish the flames, police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area surrounding the park’s front entrance remains closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic as an investigation continues, police said.

Access to Byram Park via the main entrance at Ritch Avenue West will remain temporarily closed while officers remain on scene.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice.

"We thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we work to investigate this incident thoroughly," police said.
