2 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations To Be Added In Groton
Groton will benefit from a federal bill that is funneling $14.6 million to the state for electric vehicle charging stations.
GROTON, CT — Groton is one of seven communities across the state that will be expanding its electric vehicle charging stations, according to a statement from Gov. Ned Lamont. The charging station funds were awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation to a state program via a $14.6 million grant.
The program is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
In Groton, two dual-port level chargers will be installed at the Groton Public Library.

“Connecticut is continuing to make investments in cleaner transportation thanks to our collaboration with our federal and local partners,” Lamont said in a statement. “Putting these funds to work in rural and urban communities around the state will make it easier for people and businesses to continue making the transition to cleaner cars and trucks. I appreciate the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation for partnering with Connecticut so that we can implement these infrastructure upgrades.”
State Reps. Aundré Bumgardner (D – Groton, Stonington) and Christine Conley (D – Groton, New London) praised the news.
“Not only are we expanding access to faster electric vehicle charging stations within our municipal public spaces through this grant, but we're also transforming our library into a vibrant hub for both intellectual growth and environmental stewardship," Bumgardner said in a statement.
These new locations will join 726 other publicly accessible charging locations across Connecticut.
“In order for residents to make the switch to electric vehicles, we need steps like this one taken to enhance our green infrastructure,” Conley said in a statement. “Thank you to Governor Lamont for his support and funding for this project, and I look forward to working on further developments for this critical industry.”
