2 Snow Chances in Groton's 7-Day Forecast

After a fairly mild and quiet winter thus far, we could see some snow this week. Temps will be much colder too.

For this first time this winter season, the word snow appears twice in the National Weather Service forecast.

It’s still unclear whether we’ll be receiving any significant accumulation from either snow episode, but with the lack of wintry weather thus far, it still draws interest. And it will be much colder this week as highs will just approach the freezing mark.

New London County will have milder air mixing in with the cold, and while we will see some snowflakes mixed in with rain showers, no real accumulation is expected there, according to the NWS. The snow, while not significant, could impact Tuesday’s evening commute home from work.

There is a 40- to 60-percent chance of snow, freezing rain and plain rain on Saturday and Sunday. We’ll know more as the week unfolds.

The Detailed NWS Forecast

  • Tuesday: Snow showers developing after 11 a.m. in Connecticut, mixing with rain showers in New London County. The rest of the state could see an inch of snow except northern Connecticut, which could receive up to three inches in certain spots
  • Wednesday: Chance of flurries, partly sunny with temps in the mid- to upper- 20s
  • Thursday: Partly sunny with temps in the low 30s
  • Friday: Mostly sunny with temps in the lower 40s
  • Saturday: Chance of rain or freezing rain after 1 a.m., rain and temps in low 40s
  • Sunday: Chance of snow showers, temps in mid-30s
