Daily Five: Programs For Children And A $64,000 Auction

Five Things To Know, Tuesday, Nov. 15.

 

1.  Today is Tuesday, Nov. 15.  The National Weather Service predicts cloudy skies, rain after 10 a.m. and a high temperature of 61 degrees. The low will drop to 49 tonight.

2.  Groton is one of 22 communities that applied for a grant from a foundation that focuses on creating programs to improve the lives of children. The group will hold a community meeting at noon on Dec. 6 at Groton Public Library to present its findings so far, and seek community input about what is needed in Groton. Lunch and child care will be provided.

3.  The Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut raised more than $64,000 at its 9th annual antiques and collectibles auction on Nov. 5. The proceeds will go to Fairview's annual fund. The Odd Fellows Home is a non-profit retirement home and skilled nursing facility for seniors.

5.  The Groton City Cabaret season begins its seventh annual concert series starting next month. The program is sponsored by Groton Utilities and the Groton City Parks and Recreation Department and is free. The first performance by the five-piece ensemble "Quintessential Brass" will be held at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Municipal Building at 295 Meridian Street.
