Five Things To Know Monday, Dec. 5

1.  Today is Monday, Dec. 5.  The National Weather Service predicts fog before 9 a.m., then partly sunny skies with a high temperature of 58 degrees. Tonight the low will drop to 51. There's a chance of showers after midnight.

2.  Groton Town Police issued 168 tickets for seat belt violations and distracted driving during the recent "click it or ticket campaign." A survey done as part of the campaign showed 92 percent of Groton drivers keep their seat belts buckled.

3.  Groton Human Services distributed 417 food baskets during the Thanksgiving holiday, up from 368 in 2010, and 354 in 2009, according to a report by the town manager. Donations this year total $20,900, including $16,900 in cash from individual contributions.

4.  The Groton Heights School Reuse Task Force meets at 5:30 p.m. in the Groton Municipal Building to discuss the results of a community survey, possible zoning changes for the area and its recommendations to the Town Council. and showed, in general terms, that residents want the building saved and the property publicly owned.

5.  The Noank Group Homes and Support Services will hold a holiday open house and gift drive from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 at 306 Thames St. in Groton. Gifts benefit adolescents throughout the area.
