Daily Five: Library Book Returned 30 Years Later

2. got a package in the mail in December from a woman who said she'd lived in town in the 1980s. The woman wrote that she'd taken a library cookbook with her when she moved almost 30 years ago and wanted to give it back. The package contained the battered cookbook, which could not be saved, and a check for $300.
3. Speaking of books, Groton Public Library is a pickup site for this year's World Book Night, an event where people in towns across the country give out free books on April 23 to encourage reading. Publishers donate the books, then various "book givers" pick up 20 paperbacks each and bring them to a local coffee shop, hospital, church or community center. The deadline for signing up to be a book giver is Feb. 1, and the website is http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/.

4. Fresh Connections, a professional networking organization for women will meet from 8:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. today at on Long Hill Road. There's no charge to attend, and you can meet other women seeking to expand their businesses, improve marketing or just meet other women in the business world. 5. The , is holding a "dine out for a cause" event to support the local bike share program. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of the proceeds collected from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday to Mystic Community Bikes.
