Groton State Representative Charged With DUI: Reports

A state legislator was taken into custody over the weekend on charges of DUI and reckless driving, according to reports.

GROTON, CT — State Rep. Aundré Bumgardner (D-Groton, Stonington) was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving, WTNH News-8 reported.

Bumgardner was taken into custody on the Gold Star Bridge around 2:30 a.m. He was released at 4 a.m.

Bumgardner released a statement on the incident, according to NBC CT, saying, in part: "I take full responsibility for my actions and deeply regret this mistake."

He goes on to say that he "sincerely apologizes" for his actions and "the disappointment I have caused" to his district.

House Speaker Matt Ritter said Bumgardner will be suspended from leadership and committee assignments until further notice, according to WTNH News-8.

Bumgardner, 30, represents the 41st District, which includes Groton and Stonington. He is the assistant majority leader and serves on the Finance, Revenue & Bonding, Planning & Development, and Environment Committees.
