Police Seize Fentanyl-Laced Heroin From New London Apartment
Groton Police assisted in the months-long investigation into the distribution of fentanyl-laced heroin in the area.

Five New London residents were arrested on various narcotics-related charges after a several-month long, combined investigation into the distribution of fentanyl-laced heroin in the New London area and specifically from an Amity Street apartment.
On Tuesday, March 29, the Statewide Narcotics Task Force-East Office served a search and seizure warrant at at 15 Amity Street, 2nd floor, in New London.
The task force consists of members of the State Police, the New London Police Department, Norwich Police Department, Groton City Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New London Police Vice and Intelligence Section.
"As a result of the search of the residence, over 10 grams of heroin (which field tested positive for the presence of fentanyl), a small amount of crack cocaine, packaging materials and cutting agents were seized,” according to state police. "At the conclusion of the search, five people were taken into custody.”
Fentanyl is a synthetic opiate analgesic that is more potent than morphine, according to the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Mixing fentanyl with street-sold heroin or cocaine increases their strength and the danger associated with taking them.
Effects include: euphoria, drowsiness, respiratory depression and arrest, nausea, confusion, constipation, sedation, unconsciousness, coma, tolerance and addiction.
The following people were taken into custody and processed at Troop E- Montville and the New London Police Department:

All narcotics were seized as evidence and will be sent to the Stare of Connecticut Toxicology Lab for more testing.
