Sub Base Firefighters To Be Spared In Federal Funding Cuts

Naval Submarine Base probationary firefighters will not be affected by reductions in federal spending, according to a firefighters' union.

GROTON, CT — Naval Submarine Base firefighters will be spared in federal funding cuts, according to a post from a firefighters' union.

The Department of Defense issued executive order guidance that exempts "installation positions that support and are essential for fire, life, and safety,” a statement from International Association of Firefighters President Edward Kelly reads.

"The update is the direct result of a meeting we held with White House legislative staff to ensure IAFF members are protected from any potential harm caused by changes in the federal government," the statement reads.
