A Few Good Men head to Staten Island

This morning, Friday, November 16th, Matt Healy and John DellaVentura, members of the Bishop family through marriage, will leave Bishop's Orchard in Guilford to head to Staten Island. They will be driving two truck loads of donations that have been collected over the last few weeks to bring to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

According to a press release, Matt Healy came up with the idea after hearing the horror stories on the news about those who were hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy in the areas of New York and New Jersey.

Initially, Healy started collecting items at his firehouse in Brookline, Massachusettes last week, and decided with his brother-in-law, DellaVentura, that Bishop's Orchard in Guilford "would be the perfect location for a second collection center where DellaVentura’s wife works and they both live," said the press release.

"This is a chance for communities in both MA and CT to come together and help to rebuild the lives of those who lost so much," the press release explained. "While both men were affected by Hurricane Sandy, they know that they were extremely fortunate with just the loss of power for a week, but to still have a roof over their heads and minimal interruption to their daily lives."

The Brookline Firefighters Union has purchased the rental of a U-Haul truck and Bishop's Orchard donated the second truck. The Press Release stated, that both men are "overwhelmed with the outpouring of support by their local communities."

They will still be accepting donations this morning up until the trucks leave the lot. So you if you're interested in donating, come on down bright and early!
