Last night, a homeowner in North Guilford was alerted by a properly placed camera system.

GUILFORD, CT - An alert Guilford resident, helped by a video system, caught someone attempting to break into cars in the early morning hours Thursday.

Guilford police had this to say on Facebook about the incident:

"So let us start off by saying that we are sooooo happy that people are taking our advice and locking their cars! Last night, a homeowner in North Guilford was alerted by a properly placed camera system, that a person was in his driveway shortly after 3am. After reviewing the footage, he called 911 to report it. Officers responded immediately and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The video shows a male walking onto the property, ignoring all the motion lights as he tries to open each car door. When he finds the doors locked on one car, he moves to the next and tries the handles on the next two vehicles which were also locked.

Finding no unlocked cars and no valuables in plain sight on the seats, the male then leaves the area. We wish we still could imagine Guilford as Mayberry with no need to lock our doors.... but times have changed and criminals are taking advantage of our trust on a routine basis..
