GUILFORD, CT— Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Rebecca, who nominated her son, Colin, of Guilford.

How do you know the star local student?

Colin is my 8-year-old son.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Colin is a wonderful 8-year-old boy in every way. From a young age, Colin has always known the meaning of kindness, effort, responsibility, and integrity, which will take him far in life! Selfless, compassionate, empathetic, caring, and hardworking are just a few ways to describe what a great student he is. Colin often puts the best interest of others ahead his own. He is a caring friend to all and offers a helping hand to any student or teacher in need at school.

He loves playing sports, baking and cooking with his mom, dancing, legos, art, music and being a community helper! It is his love for being a community helper that shines through in all that he does!

Colin has always enjoyed volunteering across our Shoreline community since a young age-from spending time and helping with seniors in the local senior homes, helping animal shelters, donating treats every year to our local police department, collecting and donating items for homeless shelter and foster care organizations.
He truly is a little community helper!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

His love for our police officers! Colin genuinely respects and admires police officers and dreams to be one when he grows up!
This year his letter to Santa he wrote “Dear Santa. I am so grateful for everything. I have been a good boy and would be happy with any gift you want to surprise me for Christmas so I don’t have a wish list. But please help me continue to become a police officer one day when I grow up! I will be a good one!! Love, Colin”

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,Colin Chung!
