Ethan Song Foundation To Sponsor Gun Buyback Day in Guilford
The family is also fundraising for the event saying money will be used to buyback "unwanted firearms from their owners."
GUILFORD, CT - The Ethan Song Foundation is sponsoring a gun buyback event at the Guilford police station 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this coming June. The family also has a fundraising goal for the event of $15,000 - and has already raised $6,000.
Mike Song had this to say about the event, which will be held on June 22nd at the Guilford PD:
"We are excited when people voluntarily exchange their guns for gift cards because it’s one less weapon that’s likely to get stolen or discovered by a young person.

"It’s beautiful to see these weapons converted into useful garden tools. We also understand that some people want to keep their guns. To that end, we are excited to give away a number of gun safes.
"We feel the new technology is a win win. I’ve tested these safes myself, and I can open mine in less than three seconds.

"I plan to bring a safe to every talk we give to demonstrate that save storage is a lot like seatbelts – it just makes sense. People can contribute on our website by clicking events and selecting the gun buyback program. "
Kristin Song added: “Safe Storage would have saved Ethan’s life.”
In publicizing the event, the Songs further note: "This reduces the number of weapons that can be used for suicide, accidental shootings, and school shootings. This will also drive down the number of guns available to be stolen because 80% of all gun crimes are committed by someone other than the lawful gun owner."
Swords into Plowshares
The weapons will be converted voluntarily by inmates into handy, gardening tools that can be used for peaceful purposes.
Gun Safe Giveaway
For owners who want to keep their guns but seek to better secure their weapons, a limited supply of free safes will be provided at the event.
