Expect Cleaner Beaches In Guilford This Summer

The Town of Guilford has bought a beach cleaner for $39,311, meaning the town's beaches will be cleaner this year.

Thanks to a $40,000 buy by the town, Guilford residents should be able to enjoy cleaner beaches this summer.

This year, the Guilford Recreation and Parks Department bought a beach cleaner for $39,311 that cleans beaches of shells, rocks and other debris, according to Shore Publishing. Before, the town used to borrow Madison's beach cleaner and clean the town's beaches a few times a summer, but now it will clean the town's beaches at least once a week, according to Shore Publishing.

"The machine can pick up a remarkable amount of shells and rocks off the beach. It definitely will make an improvement to the beaches," Parks and Recreation Director Rick Maynard told Shore Publishing. "It's fantastic."

Maynard said the cleanings will most likely happen on Fridays during low tide, according to Shore Publishing. He said along with town beaches, the town will be able to clean town parks as well, according to Shore Publishing.

"We'll use it at Jacobs Beach and we can use it at Daniels Avenue Beach, but what's also good about it is we can use it at ball fields," Maynard told Shore Publishing. "We can use that on the infield to get those weeds out of there so it's a multipurpose machine-it won't be used just for the beaches."
