Guilford Begins Preparations for Hurricane Sandy

As the town continues to track Hurricane Sandy, the Police Department and First Selectman's office start to prepare for the storm

Even though Sandy is a few days away from potential impact here on the shoreline, the town of Guilford begins its preparations in case of emergency.

First Selectman Joseph S. Mazza states that "We have alerted our Emergency Management Team to be prepared as soon as possible. Currently, the team is just on alert, and when we get more information, they will be activated."

On the town's website, the following message is announced: "With Hurricane Sandy potentially threatening Connecticut, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is asking residents to closely monitor the storm's path over the next few days and to be prepared. In addition, the First Selectman has put the Guilford Emergency Management Team on standby for pre-storm preparations."

Jeffrey C. Hutchinson, Deputy Chief of Police in Guilford explains that the Police Department is also gearing up for the storm. "We are making preparations for the storm.  Here at the PD we are planning for full staffing, inspecting facilities, topping off fuel tanks and conducting pre-land fall meetings to keep abreast of the storm track."

Hutchinson continues, "Fire Chief Charles Herrschaft and First Selectman Mazza's office will be coordinating the Town-wide response."
