The Guilford Foundation Receives $225K In Donations To Kick Off Anniversary Campaign

The funds will cover the renovation costs for The Guilford Foundation's new office space.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Foundation has launched its 50th Anniversary Community Campaign with $225,000 in initial donations from 11 local donors, the organization announced this week.

The contributions will cover the renovation cost for the historic building at 44 Boston St., which was donated to the foundation by Ascend Bank (formerly GSB) in December 2024.

The renovations are now complete, according to TGF.

Overall, the campaign seeks to raise $500,000 to support both the renovation project and future grantmaking. The milestone effort commemorates the foundation’s five decades of community service while planning for its long-term sustainability.

"A dedicated group of supporters came together with a clear vision to fund these essential renovations, as it can be difficult to raise money for capital improvements when helping the community is the priority," said donor Andy Eder in a prepared statement.

"We recognized the need to revitalize the building to meet the expanding demands of the Foundation, and that it be done quickly so the Foundation team can leverage the new space as they launch this milestone celebration and community appeal. Subsequent campaign donations support local nonprofits through TGF's grantmaking."

The foundation had long used the Boston Street office space under a previous agreement with the bank. In 2024, as part of its own reorganization, Ascend Bank officially gifted the building to the foundation, aligning with the bank's 150th anniversary and the foundation’s upcoming 50th.

"We are incredibly grateful to the eleven donors who have stepped up to support our mission and this exciting new chapter for the Guilford Foundation," said TGF Executive Director Liza Janssen Petra in a prepared statement. "Their commitment not only enables us to make necessary renovations to enhance our efficiency and foster collaboration but also sets the stage for a thriving future. Our anniversary campaign is about honoring our past while building a brighter tomorrow for all members of our community."

Founded in 1975, the Guilford Foundation was established by a group of local residents committed to creating a sustainable fund to support future community needs. Over the years, the foundation has provided grants for basic needs, education, youth programs, and mental health initiatives in Guilford.

Kyle Eagleson, president and CEO of Ascend Bank, said the building donation reflects the bank’s longstanding partnership with the foundation and its commitment to local philanthropy.

"The Guilford Foundation has worked tirelessly to address the evolving needs of the town, driving philanthropic efforts that are both inclusive and impactful. The 44 Boston Street building gives the Foundation the permanent resources to continue its outstanding work," Eagleson said in a prepared statement. "This gift supports our guiding principles and core values to give back to the communities we serve."

The foundation officially launched the community campaign on July 1.

"As 25-plus year members of this community, we care deeply about the well-being of our town," donors Barry and Joan Richter said in a joint statement. "Giving to The Guilford Foundation is an investment in the quality of life for everyone in our town. It ensures that the Foundation will continue to serve and strengthen our community for the next 50 years and beyond."
